About the Coin Set

The 2017-S Denver ANA Enhanced Uncirculated Set, graded PCGS SP70 and limited to just 1,000 perfect sets, has become one of the most desirable modern U.S. Mint issues. Released exclusively at the 2017 American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money in Denver, this ten-coin set featured all circulating denominations in a special Enhanced Uncirculated finish—an eye-catching blend of frosted, matte, and polished design elements.

Its distribution was unusual and helped cement its status as a modern rarity. The Mint offered the sets only on the ANA show floor, with strict limits per buyer. Collectors immediately noticed the coins’ high-detail, high-contrast appearance. But it wasn’t until grading results emerged that the scarcity became fully clear: only 1,000 complete sets received the coveted PCGS SP70 designation, making them far scarcer than typical modern numismatic products.

Why the Set Matters

While Enhanced Uncirculated coins had appeared in isolated special issues, 2017 marked the first and only time the Mint applied the finish to all denominations in a single set. That alone gives the set historical importance, showcasing a one-time experiment in Mint technology and presentation.

Achieving perfect grades across all ten coins proved exceptionally difficult. The finish is striking but unforgiving, revealing even the smallest imperfections. As a result, the limited SP70 population represents the finest attainable examples of this unique release.

Collectors of modern U.S. Mint issues increasingly chase low-population, event-tied sets—especially those available only through on-site distribution.
